Off to See the Wizard (at The Sphere!)

When I was little, The Wizard of Oz was my absolute favorite movie. Like, “I knew every line and every song” favorite… Like “I dressed as Dorothy every single day and annoyed my entire family” favorite. So when I saw that Vegas was hosting a full-on Sphere experience of the movie, it was an immediate YES. And even better, I got to turn it into a girls’ trip with my mom and sister (had to annoy them one last time).

Let me just say: the entire experience was everything I hoped it would be. Magical, immersive, and a little chaotic in the best Vegas way.

Getting There & Where to Stay

The Sphere is directly connected to the Venetian, which makes it the easiest option if you want to roll out of your room and basically walk right in. We stayed at the Wynn, which was absolutely gorgeous and only about a 10-minute walk away. Totally manageable, and honestly a nice stroll before sitting for almost two hours.

When to Arrive

We went to the 2 PM showing and I cannot recommend this enough: arrive at least 30 minutes early. Here’s why:

  • You’ll need time to get through security and scanning.
  • The concessions are themed (!!!) with Wizard of Oz snacks, drinks, and collectible cups; worth it.
  • The crowd is big. Arriving early meant we weren’t rushed, and we could grab our food and find our seats without panicking.

Pro tip: don’t miss the giant striped witch socks and ruby heels outside the Sphere. Perfect photo op before you head in!

The Seats You Want

We sat in Section 207, Row 14 (seats 15, 16 & 17) and it was perfection. Centered, great view, and you’re completely wrapped up in the Sphere’s massive screen. It’s hard to describe, but you really feel like you’re inside the movie.

That said, if you’re someone who gets motion sickness easily, take a pill beforehand or just give yourself permission to look away for a moment during fast-motion scenes. It can get a little overwhelming, but it’s manageable.

The Show Itself

The movie had some enhancements to fit the Sphere format. Some were seamless, others a little funny (missing shadows for characters, etc.), but overall it was magical. I honestly felt like a kid again watching Dorothy skip down the yellow brick road. Did I get a little teary-eyed? Yes. Did I tell anyone that? I did just now…

The one thing I was lowkey expecting and was kind of disappointed by? More apples in the tree scene. The apples do drop… but not that many, and people went wild trying to grab them. We didn’t snag one, but I found out later you can actually order them online, for $10, with a QR code from the merch shops (so maybe less fighting required).

Don’t Rush Out After!

When the credits roll, don’t immediately bolt for the exit and head to the casinos (tempting, I know). After the show, they had this whole post-movie experience in the concession area:

  • The Omaha Fair hot air balloon
  • A flying monkey
  • The Wizard himself! (you can ask him questions!!!!!!)

Plus, there are two different merch shops with slightly different goodies. No apples, though… apparently they’re the hot-ticket item and only sold online.

The whole experience runs about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. That’s including entrance, show time, and going through the merch shop.

Extra Photo Ops

Afterward, we walked across the bridge into the Venetian shops where they had a Wizard of Oz café (no purchases made) and a big photo area with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion statues. The line was long, so we opted for photos in front of the water feature. Just as pretty, still gets the background in the photo, and zero waiting.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of The Wizard of Oz, a Vegas adventurer, or just looking for something new and fun to do, this show is absolutely worth it. I had the best time with my mom and sister, and it honestly felt like one of those trips I’ll remember forever.

So if you’re planning a Vegas getaway before April 2026, follow the yellow brick road straight to the Sphere. Trust me… you’ll be glad you did. Or maybe you won’t. Did I mention this was my favorite movie of all time? I’m biased.
