A Spontaneous Night at Onera Wimberley

Every once in a while, the best plans are the ones you didn’t plan at all.

On Thursday around lunchtime, I had the random urge to check the rates at Onera Wimberley. Normally, a night there runs at least $500, and can easily climb past $1,000. But that day? One night was sitting at $200.

Within minutes, the decision was made…
We were going to Onera that evening.

By 4PM we had our bags packed, the car loaded, and were on our way to Wimberley for a spontaneous one-night getaway.

A Check-In Without a Check-In

One of the things I loved immediately about Onera is how effortless the arrival process is.

There’s no traditional front desk or lobby check-in. About 30 minutes before arrival, they send you a door code. When you get there, you simply walk up to your suite, punch in the code, and you’re in! No waiting, no lines, no small talk if you’re not in the mood for it.

Just you and your little escape.

We stayed in Greenhouse 101, which ended up being the perfect spot. It’s a corner suite directly across from the pool with incredible deck views.

Inside the Greenhouse Suite

The suite itself is simple, but in the best possible way.

Everything you need is there, thoughtfully arranged for a comfortable stay. There’s a small kitchenette equipped with a kettle, air fryer/toaster, hot plate, utensils, coffee, oil, spices, and a fridge. Honestly, it’s the perfect setup for a true getaway where you can cook a simple meal or snack without needing to leave the property.

The living space is quaint and cozy… A small couch, a little plant tucked in the corner, and just enough room to relax without feeling cluttered.

And the bed? A huge king-sized bed that was unbelievably comfortable.

But the real highlight is the entire back wall of the suite. Picture this: a massive window and sliding glass door that opens onto the balcony, revealing sweeping views of the Texas Hill Country.

And on that balcony sits what might be the real selling point of the entire suite:
private hot tub overlooking the hills.

A Hill Country Evening

As soon as we settled in, we decided to stretch our legs and explore the property.

Onera has beautiful trails winding through the land, so we set out on a little hike. It was one of those perfect spring afternoons! There was a light sprinkle of rain here and there, with small pockets of golden hour sunlight breaking through the clouds. The kind of weather that makes everything feel calm and fresh.

After our walk, we wandered over to the pool.

The property has a gorgeous infinity pool that overlooks the surrounding landscape. It was heated just enough to feel perfectly comfortable… warm, but still refreshing.

I love swimming, and it had been far too long since I’d gotten in a pool, so an evening swim felt like the perfect way to decompress. There’s something magical about swimming outdoors as the day fades into night.

Dinner With a View

After our swim, we headed back to the room and made a simple dinner that we enjoyed out on the balcony.

No phones.
No rush.
Just conversation.

It was one of those rare evenings where you talk about everything and nothing all at once.

As the night cooled off, we moved from the balcony table to the hot tub and continued our conversation there, soaking under the cloudy Hill Country sky.

By around 10PM, we called it a night. Cozy, relaxed, and completely reset.

A Slow Morning

The next morning started the best possible way: coffee in bed. (This should be a daily practice)

Outside, the hills were wrapped in soft clouds, creating that peaceful, slightly misty view that the Texas Hill Country does so well.

We took it slow before deciding to head into Wimberley for breakfast.

Checking out was just as effortless as checking in. Before 11AM, Onera sends a message letting you know there’s nothing you need to do. Simply pack up and leave, and they handle the rest. No lines, no forms, no desk.

Just grab your things and go.

The Kind of Getaway You Want to Repeat

Even though we only stayed one night, it felt like a true reset.

Onera offers a lot of specialty packages you can add to your stay, things like private chef dinners, massages, yoga sessions, and other curated experiences. Next time, we’re hoping to stay two nights so we can really take advantage of some of those.

Because after one spontaneous evening there, one thing is certain: we’ll definitely be back.
