Review:

Rebecca… darling… I say this with total calmness… WHAT THE HECK???

I swear, every time I think I’m prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that is The Empyrean Series, Rebecca Yarros proves me dead wrong. And now… let’s dive into Onyx Storm.

The twists? Continuously unrelenting. The stakes? Higher. Than. Ever. The cliffhanger? Absolutely criminal. I constantly found myself setting the book down just to process – staring into the abyss, questioning everything, and then immediately picking it back up because I had to know what happened next (curiosity is a devilish thing)… I’ve now officially named Rebecca Yarros the queen of cliffhangers because she does not hold back. Or, well… technically, she does because did I mention this cliffhanger is criminal?

What I love most is how this series continues to build. The depth of the characters, the tension woven into every decision, every battle, every moment – it’s impossible to look away. And through all the chaos, the heartbreak, and the impossible choices, there’s still that undeniable pull of love, loyalty, the will to survive, and hope.

And now, we wait. For at least two years… Gods help me. But when the next book comes? I’ll be ready – I think.

Favorite Onyx Storm Quotes:

“Xaden tilts his head, studying the king. ‘Violet.’ My heart skips into double time. ‘My loyalty is to Violet first above everything, everyone else,’”

“’I’m jealous of the armor that holds you when I can’t, the sheets on your bed that caress your skin every night, and the blades that feel your hands.’”

“’Tell me something, Violence.’ A muscle in his square jaw ticks as he stares down at me, rippling the tawny-brown skin of his stubbled cheek. ‘Why is it always you?’”

“You are the only person in the world with the power to strip me of every ounce of my control, and the only person I can’t fathom losing that control with.”

“It was hotter than rage, and sharper than fear, and cut deeper than helplessness, all because I couldn’t get to you.”
